DuVal HS Concert Band
Concert Band is a curricular ensemble for which students receive credit, and will be scheduled to meet every Tuesday after school. Students study a variety of music in addition to studying significant examples of symphonic band literature. Students are expected to refine their technical abilities and musicality through a consistent practice regiment. The Concert Band plays in two concerts during the school year, one in winter and one in spring, and will perform at the County Band Festival in March.
DuVal HS String Orchestra
The String Orchestra is a curricular ensemble for which students receive credit, and holds rehearsals during String Orchestra class. The Orchestra performs in two concerts per year, one in winter and one in spring, and may perform in the County Orchestra Festival or the Solo & Ensemble Festival.
"Tigers of Jazz" -
The DuVal HS Jazz Ensemble
The Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned, extra-curricular ensemble for which students receive extra credit, and is scheduled to meet every Thursday after school. Students learn to play in various different jazz styles, including funk, swing, gospel, Latin, rock and ballad. The course demands high levels of improvement in each student's tone quality, musical ear, technique and appreciation. The Jazz Band plays in two main concerts, as well as a series of other venues.
The DuVal High School Marching Tigers
The Marching Band plays at all home football games and the Prince George's County Marching Band Showcase in October. The group may also participate in other public events such as pep rallies, parades, other sporting events, etc. The music for the Marching Band is rehearsed in class and during after school rehearsals. Extra rehearsals will be planned with advance notice. Participation in the Marching Band is optional for all students, but is highly recommended for freshmen.
DuVal HS Percussion Ensemble
The Percussion Ensemble is a curricular ensemble for which students receive credit, and rehearses during Percussion Class. The ensemble plays in two concerts during the school year, one in winter and one in spring, and may perform at the Solo and Ensemble festival.
